DUPHAFRAL D3 1000, Solution for Injection for Cattle
- The product contains vitamin D3 (Colecalciferol) as its only pharmacolocically active constituent for the prevention of hypocalcaemic paresis in cattle also known as milk fever.
- Adminsitration of Duphafral D3 1000 before calving produce an elevation in plasma calcium concentration of sufficient magnitude and duration to prevent the development of clinical signs of paresis.
- This is a well-established formulation used from many years that is marketed in 10 mL amber colour vials for better protection from light exposure.

INDICATIONS
For the prevention of hypocalcaemic paresis (milk fever) in cows.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
Do not use in animals with known hypersensitivity to Injectable vitamin solutions.
ADVERSE REACTIONS
Calcification of blood vessels has been observed following repeated high doses of Vitamin
D3.
In addition to elevating the plasma concentration of calcium, the administration of the product
tends to depress plasma magnesium concentration. In order to avoid the risk of
hypomagnesemia it is recommended the administration of magnesium during latest stages of
pregnancy.
In the event of an allergic or anaphylactic reaction immediate treatment should be given with
a soluble glucocorticoid intravenously (e.g. dexamethasone sodium phosphate) or epinephrine
(adrenaline) intramuscularly.
The product contains a polyethoxylated castor oil as non-ionic surfactant and can provide
severe anaphylactic reactions associated with histamine release.
If overdosed, calcification of blood vessels has been observed, following repeated high doses
of vitamin D3. do not exceed the recommended dose when administering to cattle of Jersey
breed, since it is specially sensible to intoxication by vitamin D3.
Symptoms of vitamin D intoxication include anorexia, weight loss, intestinal stasis, dyspnoea
and polyuria.

DOSAGE, ROUTE AND METHOD OF ADMINISTRATION
Administration is by strict intramuscular injection.
The contents of one vial (10 ml) should be injected between 8 and 2 days before the estimated
calving date. In case the animal has not yet calved before or at the estimated calving date a
second dose (10 ml) can be injected not earlier then 8 days after the first injection.
ADVICE ON CORRECT ADMINISTRATION
Aseptic precautions must be observed when using the product. Use a sterile needle and syringe. Clean and disinfect the injection site prior to administration.

For meat and milk: National label conditions must be observed by country.
SHELF LIFE
Shelf life of the veterinary medicinal product as packaged for sale: 3 years.
Use the entire content of the vial once opened.
SPECIAL STORAGE PRECAUTIONS
Do not store above 25°C.
Protect from light.
SPECIAL WARNINGS
No negative effects of the use of Duphafral D3 1000 during gestation and lactation are
reported.
No concomitant treatment may be given at the same injection site.
Wash hands after use.
Any unused veterinary medicinal product or waste materials derived from such veterinary
medicinal products should be disposed of in accordance with local requirements.

Nature and composition of immediate packaging
10 ml amber coloured type I glass vials with a red butyl stopper and natural coloured
aluminium capsule containing a pale yellow oily solution.
